Virtual BC101: Begin To Skin

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2021 @ 7:00 pm

We’re bummed to not be able to host our popular BC101 Clinics in the store this winter. The good news is that we’ve gotten so many requests about backcountry gear that we’ve created a short version of this popular Pine University winter clinic on-line!

Dan McGarigle answers the most common questions about selecting backcountry ski gear and how it all works. This video is on-line now and can be watched any time.

This clinic is tailored to backcountry beginners. We’ll discuss BC equipment basics including 3-pin bindings and alpine touring or tech bindings, as well as how to use climbing skins. We’ll share clothing secrets to keep you cool when climbing and warm when descending, and discuss what essentials you should always carry in your pack.

This video has a focus on AT Bindings, Boots & Climbing Skins and covers:

1. What is AT or Alpine Touring?

2. Different types of Backcountry or AT Gear

3. Classic BC Nordic & 3-Pin Setups (w/ Fishscales)

4. The Basics of Different AT or Tech Bindings/Boots

5. How To Use Tech Bindings

6. How To Use Climbing Skins

7. What’s Always In Your BC Ski Pack

8. A Few Words On Being Prepared

9. A Quick Discussion On Clothing
